Nashville, Music City, Birthplace of Bluegrass, modern and classic all at the same time. I stayed an additional day after the Vandy graduation. I picked up my mom and dad and we were off to Antique Archaeology. If you haven’t seen the show American Pickers on History Channel, it’s a must see. Mike and Frank travel the country and look for “rusty gold” and then they resell it at one of their two stores. Their second and newest store is in Nashville. What a treat to go in and see some of the things I have watched them “pick” from across the country. It’s a tour of our short history as a nation. Mom and dad watch the show and we could relive the stories as we strolled through the store of living history. Stories that shouldn’t be lost to time, the same stories we all have in our lives. As I travel I will be going to see family from Midwest farms and big cities. My family is aging as I am and if I don’t hear their stories now so I can pass them along to my son, they may be lost forever. One way I save these stories is with an app developed by Kinokē. Kinokē was developed by a good friend and his son after grandpa Harry got Alzheimer’s. Harry was from Greece and always had great stories but when he became sick, he wasn’t able to tell his stories and they were all but lost. Please check out Kinokē and save your stories. It is better hear the stories told by the ones who lived it than to look at an old picture of a birth certificate and wonder what he was like. Kinokē
After a a good time spent at Antique Archaeology, we went to have some southern style food and then had a stroll in downtown Nashville. What a great mix of the new and old. There was live music coming out of every bar and honkytonk. This is where so many hopefuls come for their big break, for stardom! One could spend a week going in and listening to great music and talking to the wonderful people of Nashville. Besides the music and glamour of downtown it’s only a short walk to the State Capitol for a great history lesson. So much to see and do, Nashville is on my list for a longer stay the next go around. Now it’s back to Memphis with mom and dad to see Graceland. Bring your Blue Suede Shoes!
