I find myself staying with family again on my road trip. I am truly blessed to have met wonderful people over the course of my life. Many of the people I have met in my life have become friends, some have become best friends and few have become family. If you have lived long enough, you know what I’m talking about. As I understand myself better, I realize how few people I really know and trust and love. I read somewhere that acquaintances are people we know well enough to borrow from but not well enough to loan to. If you continue with that logic, family are those who we will give to without expectation of repayment. Sure you can think monetarily but I think it is so much more different than that. We give our family our time, our attention, our solace, our care, our heart and our love. Many of us would give our life for family.
We may not have biology to tug us back together when we drift apart, but our love and commitment through our choice of family can be a bond as strong as biology. My godson sits with me and his brothers in this picture. I met his parents 2000 miles away from here and long before children. When we are together we recall the same happy story about how we met. Some of the details may be questioned, yet we all agree how we knew our chance encounter was going to be something more. It’s in that knowing, where we find family. As life would have it, they would have 3 boys and I would have the pleasure of knowing those boys. I would be honored when I was asked to be a godfather. We are family. My love for family draws me 2000 miles from home. My heart eases the long road. My joy is the time I spend with family.
