Walk Savannah

Walk Savannah.  If you ever get out to Savannah, stay in historic downtown.  No matter how long your stay, don’t get in your car until you are ready to leave for good.  Walk Savannah.  Be prepared to go back in time.  As you stroll leisurely through Savannah you will live the past.  Visit all 22 of Savannah’s historic squares and get a taste of old Savannah. Relax on a bench as the breeze blows through the live oaks eerily draped with Spanish moss.  Get mesmerized and let your mind sway with the moss until you’re transported to a time when everyone walked a little slower and appreciated the walk as much as the destination.  Do you hear the clip clop of the horse and carriage as it passes on the cobblestone street just behind you?  What about the children in the distance laughing as they play tag.  Do you feel the sun as it peeks through the moss and warms your face?  It’s a sleepy Sunday and you see the families walk by in their Sunday’s best after morning church.  You wonder where they are going for brunch and it makes you think about Mrs. Wilkes’.  You know Mrs. Wilkes runs a boardinghouse and she serves the community.  Your hunger brings you back to the present and you know Mrs. Wilkes still serves from her old boardinghouse.  The food at Mrs. Wilkes’ is authentic and in keeping with tradition it is served family style.  You wait in line for 2 hours and eat with the friends you made in line.  You laugh and tell stories of family and friends.  You say goodbye and realize you have new friends and family because of Savannah.  So when you come back, you will remember to walk Savannah.
